Granulated chlorine is a fundamental part of the chemical treatment of any swimming pool. Its formulation, with a high percentage of active chlorine, allows both to maintain adequate levels of disinfection on a daily basis and to quickly recover the water after episodes of pollution, rains or high influx of swimmers. why use granulated chlorine?

High concentration of free chlorine

Granulated chlorine usually contains between 55% and 90% of active chlorine, guaranteeing superior oxidizing and disinfecting power. This high percentage allows smaller doses to obtain the same result as with other formats.

Precise dosing

Thanks to its granulometry, it dissolves homogeneously and allows to accurately measure the quantity needed according to the volume of water and the degree of pollution load.

Full compatibility with coatings

When correctly dosed (by pre-dissolving in a bucket and pouring while the filtering machine is running), granulated chlorine is suitable for tiled, liner and polyester pools. Very important: it should never be dosed directly into the pool, especially in pools with delicate coatings such as liner or polyester, as it may cause stains or discolorations. Always follow the recommendation of the liner manufacturer or installer.

Safe Storage and Handling

Granular chlorine bleach, being in a dry, stable form, has a longer shelf life than liquid chlorine bleach. It should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight and moisture, to avoid premature degradation of the product.

how does granulated chlorine act in water?

Release of hypochlorous acid (HOCl)

When dissolved, granulated chlorine generates HOCl, the most effective compound against organic matter. This acid penetrates the cell walls of bacteria, viruses and algae, oxidizing their vital components and eliminating them.

Oxidation of organic matter

Residues such as sweat, body oils or pollen are oxidized, preventing the formation of organic by-products that can reduce the effectiveness of free chlorine.

PH balance

It is important, prior to shock treatment, to check and adjust the pH level, as a proper pH (between 7.2 and 7.6) maximizes the effectiveness of granular chlorine. Most granular chlorine formulations are pH adjusted (around 6.8-7.2) to minimize the impact on the alkalinity of the water and to facilitate subsequent regulation.

Note: All models should be applied with the filtration system running and preferably pre-dissolved. Never apply directly on the pool, especially in pools with liner or polyester.

Define the main use

• Occasional shock: We recommend the use of CTX-200GR, a fast dissolving granulated chlorine (dichlorine) with 55% useful chlorine.
• Regular maintenance: We recommend the use of CTX-300GR, with 90% useful chlorine and slow dissolution.

Calculate the necessary dosage

• For shock: 10 g/m³ of water.
• For maintenance: 1-2 g/m³ weekly.

Always read the dosage indicated on the product label. Use the product responsibly.

Control and adjust pH and alkalinity

After applying the granules, wait at least 4 hours with filtration running, then measure pH and alkalinity and correct if necessary.

Check the concentration of isocyanuric acid (CYA)

CYA protects chlorine from UV radiation, but levels above 50 ppm may reduce efficacy.

Plan storage

Keep the product in a dry, ventilated place away from heat sources. Always use clean, dry utensils to avoid contamination.

• CYA (isocyanuric acid): Chlorine stabilizer; excess can "inhibit" the disinfectant action.
• Redox: Measure of the oxidizing power of water; a value between 650-700 mV indicates optimum quality.
• Alkalinity: Buffer capacity of water; should be between 80-120 ppm.
• Hardness: Calcium and magnesium salts; high levels can cause scaling.
• Dichlor: Fast dissolving stabilized chlorine with near neutral pH (6-7), ideal for shock treatments.
• Trichlor: Slow dissolving chlorine, very concentrated (90% of useful chlorine), with acid pH (2-3).
